Strong candidates Do the following while interviewing:

The best candidates I've ever interviewed did the following:

  • They talked about their experience in a coherent, easy-to-follow way

  • They asked questions at the end that related to the conversation we just had (i.e. they listened)

  • They mentioned the values of the company, the products / services they provide, and something about the company that's been in the news recently

  • They asked me about me (we all have a bit of ego, it’s okay)

  • They picked out key points from the job description and told me about their experience that exemplify those points

  • They were polite and show gratitude - i.e. they said please and thank you

  • They found a great balance between confidence and humility - they knew what they could bring to the role and the company, yet they also embodied a growth mindset

  • They weren’t afraid to hold firm on their salary expectations - but they also took into account their entire compensation package and kept an open mind

  • They Ended their interview with the question, “Is there anything about my skills or experience that you’d like me to clarify for you?” and “What would potential next steps look like?”

If you do these things, I can almost guarantee you'll at least get through that initial recruiter screening.
